Tata Steel Inks MoU With Vietnam Steel To Set Up Steel Complex In Vietnam

Tata Steel Ltd announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday with Vietnam Steel Corporation, Vietnam’s largest steel company, for setting up a steel complex in Ha Tinh province in Vietnam. The plant is proposed to have an estimated capacity of 4.5 million tonnes per annum, which will be phased over ten years.

As per the MoU, Tate Steel, in cooperation with VSC, will undertake a feasibility study for the steel project. On successful completion of the study and financial closure, Tata Steel will have a minimum stake of 65% and VSC will hold the remaining 35% in the steel complex.

Sao Luis Mining’s Latest Bulk Sampling Recovers 4,961 Carats of Diamonds on Its Property 117 and Schedules Production Mining to Begin on Its Property 231 in Brazil

Sao Luis Mining, Inc. a “conflict free” diamond mining and precious metals exploration company, reports that its joint venture partner SL Mineradora Ltda. has recovered 4,961 carats of diamonds from the bulk sampling program on Property 117 in Brazil. Equally significant, the average grade per cubic meter increased from .38 carats in November 2006 to .86 carats in April 2007, with an average yield of 0.664 carats in May 2007.

Caution over village coal plans

Plans to open a deep mine in the Dumfriesshire village of Canonbie would need strong government support, according to Scottish Coal.

First Minister Alex Salmond recently said the industry could have a “vital role” in the nation’s energy needs.

It has prompted speculation that Canonbie could be a development target due to large underground reserves.

Pele Mountain Expands Drilling at Elliot Lake Uranium Project

Pele Mountain Resources Inc. announced today that the ongoing drill program at its Elliot Lake Uranium Project has been expanded from 11 holes to at least 25 holes totalling at least 4,000 metres. Pele is focused on its objective of developing a world-class mine at Elliot Lake where an inferred resource of over 33 million pounds of U3O8 has been outlined, with the potential for significant upgrade and expansion.

New copper deposits found in Zimbabwe

Riozim had also found new gold deposits along the country’s mining belt
Harare - Zimbabwe’s biggest mining company, Riozim said on Tuesday that it had discovered copper in the south of the country, but did not reveal the size of the deposits. Company chairman, Eric Kahari, said Riozim had also found new gold deposits along the country’s mining belt in central Zimbabwe.

Scorpio’s Surface Drilling of Santa Teresa Reports

Scorpio Mining Corporation is pleased to report the first surface drilling results targeting the Santa Teresa deposit, as well as underground drilling from the 10th Level of the Nuestra Senora deposit, which targeted the Sept 9 zone and followed up on the recently discovered down dip extension of the Santa Teresa.

The Santa Teresa deposit mineralization outcrops at river level approximately 150 metres northeast of the Santo Domingo and 250 metres east of the Nuestra Senora deposits, both of which also outcrop at river level. The Candelaria deposit outcrops on the canyon wall 150 metres above the river level between the Santa Teresa and the Nuestra Senora.

Synenco releases coal resource estimates

Synenco Energy Inc., managing partner of the Northern Lights Partnership (NLP), today released its first independent estimate of coal resources on NLP’s coal lease application area. The coal resource estimate is based on data from 652 exploration holes and the associated Technical Report, dated May 8, 2007, has been prepared by independent qualified persons with Norwest Corporation.

Appalaches Resources Inc.: Six New Uranium Properties Acquired

Ressources Appalaches has acquired six new uranium properties on the north shore of the St-Lawrence river in Quebec. The quantification and reinterpretation of previously conducted radiometric surveys has resulted in the identification of several new uranium exploration targets.

Three properties are located on the lower north shore between Natashquan and La Romaine east of the Wakeham group and the other three are located north of Forestville, Godbout and Port-Cartier, respectively, on the upper north shore and one of the properties is located near the Company’s Ashini property. A total of 206 claims have been acquired, covering an area of 114 km2. Read more » »

Australia should consider uranium: Joyce

Nationals senator Barnaby Joyce says Australia should use it own uranium for nuclear power if it is willing to export it.

His comments follow claims the federal government is seeking advice on whether it can force states to accept the construction of nuclear facilities.

Senator Joyce said Australia already made money off uranium, so why should it not look at using it for its own energy needs?
