Finning wins C$100 mln oil sands contract
Finning International said on Tuesday it has won a contract worth more than C$100 million ($90.1 million) to provide a fleet of large mining trucks to be used in the Albian Sands oil sands project in northern Alberta.
The order for the 19 new Caterpillar 797B 400-ton mining trucks began in the first quarter of 2007, with the bulk of the order being delivered in late 2007 and throughout 2008.
The order was placed by Albian Sands Energy, which operates the Muskeg River Mine and will also operate the Jackpine Mine on behalf of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project. Athabasca Oil Sands is a joint venture that comprises Shell Canada , Chevron Canada Canada and Western Oil Sands L.P. .
The Muskeg River and Jackpine mines are both located in the Fort McMurray region of Alberta.
Of the 19 trucks, 16 will be placed into service at the new Jackpine Mine, part of Albian Sands Expansion 1, while three are being added to Albian Sands’ existing fleet at the Muskeg River location.
