Scorpio’s Surface Drilling of Santa Teresa Reports
Scorpio Mining Corporation is pleased to report the first surface drilling results targeting the Santa Teresa deposit, as well as underground drilling from the 10th Level of the Nuestra Senora deposit, which targeted the Sept 9 zone and followed up on the recently discovered down dip extension of the Santa Teresa.
The Santa Teresa deposit mineralization outcrops at river level approximately 150 metres northeast of the Santo Domingo and 250 metres east of the Nuestra Senora deposits, both of which also outcrop at river level. The Candelaria deposit outcrops on the canyon wall 150 metres above the river level between the Santa Teresa and the Nuestra Senora.
Mining of the Santa Teresa deposit was limited, with only 20,000 tonnes of mineralized material removed from an open cut at surface. The mineralization consists of coarse galena, sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite disseminated in a skarn matrix of quartz, epidote, actinolite, tremolite and grossularite garnets. There is no evidence that ASARCO undertook any drill testing of the deposit. The geology and mineralogy are similar to the Hoag zone located between the 8th and 11th levels of the Nuestra Senora deposit.
