Nigeria Expand and Develop Mineral Mine Exploration Make Regulation for Mining Exploration

Federal Government has identified seven minerals for national development, inister of Mines and Steel Development, Chief Sarafa Isola, said in Abuja yesterday.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the minerals were Gold, Lead/Zinc, Barite, Bitumen, Limestone, Coal and Iron Ore. Isola said that Nigeria was well-endowed with myriad of solid minerals, but that government selected only seven to ensure focus and added that blueprints had been developed on the seven areas. He said the need to ensure focus became necessary to increase the contribution of the solid minerals sector to the GDP from 0.5 per cent to somewhere around 7 per cent.

Iron Ore Mine Exploration and Steelmaker Future in China, Two Chinese Steel Companies Merge

China is the world’s biggest steel producer and consumer but many of its mills are dirty and inefficient. The government is trying to promote efficiency through consolidation and hopes bigger producers can strike better deals with foreign iron ore suppliers at a time of record prices.

The new state-owned Hebei Iron and Steel Group Co. replaces Baosteel Group Co. as China’s biggest steel company.

The new company was formed through a merger of Tangshan Iron & Steel Group and Handan Iron & Steel Group.

Philipines Power Supply Company, Napacor To Tender Coal Mine Shipment Project

To anticipate lacking of coal mine raw material which will be applied to process supply energy, feeder company energy Napacor is bid to process delivery of coal mine raw material. delivery of coal mine done from finite August of December.

ArcelorMittal Mining Exploration Company Submitted Propose Detailed Project Report for Land Acquisition Orissa project

ArcelorMittal is ready with the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to be submitted soon to the Orissa government for its proposed greenfield steel mill in Keonjhar district and will soon go for land acquisition, a top company official said here today.

“We have urged the state government to hold gram sabha meetings in order to ensure smooth land acquisition by the company”, ArcerlorMittal’s India greenfield project chief Sanak Mishra told reporters on the sideline of the 4th international iron and steel making conference here.

Environmental groups, a coalition of 11 U.S. and Canadian environmental groups, warrant investigation British Columbia coal mine exploration project in Southeastern.

The groups on Thursday requested investigation by the International Joint Commission, a Canada-U.S. panel charged with preventing and resolving disputes under a 1909 water treaty. Possible contamination of water in the Flathead River system, which flows into Montana from Canada, is among the groups’ concerns.

Gold Mining Exploration Near Juneau, Alaska Case

A mining company and the state of Alaska had asked the justices to take the case. At issue is a challenge by environmentalists to the planned dumping of tailings from gold mining into 23-acre Lower Slate Lake in the Tongass National Forest.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers issued a permit for the dumping after the corps and the Environmental Protection Agency agreed to a regulatory change in 2002. The rule defines “fill” as “tailings or similar mining-related materials.”

Zimbabwe Review Mining Exploration of Anglo Company Mine

Anglo American planned to invest 400 million dollars (257 million euros) into a platinum mine situated in the southern African country.

Anglo American said in a statement it “is monitoring the situation in Zimbabwe very closely and is reviewing all options surrounding the development of the project.”

“It has been made clear to Anglo American that if it ceases to develop this project, the government of Zimbabwe will assume control,” the company added.
