Coal Mine Exploration by Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. 4.3 Million Tons Expected
June 13th, 2008
Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. says production is back to normal at one of its two West Virginia coal mines.
Bad geology slowed production at the Pinnacle Mine in Wyoming County last March. That prompted Cleveland-Cliffs to tell customers it couldn’t deliver coal because of extraordinary circumstances. Cleveland-Cliffs said Thursday the “force majeure” event has ended.
Cleveland-Cliffs says it still expects to produce 4.3 million tons of metallurgical-grade coal for steel manufacturers from mines in Alabama and West Virginia in 2008.
Though known as an iron ore miner, Cleveland-Cliffs entered the coal business with the $610 million purchase of Canonsburg, Pa.-based PinnOak Resources last July.
