A total of 119 miners were working at the site, six of them were killed when the incident took place. The remaining 113 miners were later brought to surface, he added.

Meanwhile, the mine’s owner, Alexander Potapenko, who is the head of the Krasnodonugol mining company, said a preliminary investigation confirmed that human error was not to blame, but gave no further details.
Deadly accidents are frequent in Ukraine’s mines, most of which are located in the country’s east. Many of the mines are under-funded and poorly equipped, while safety violations are rife.
