British mining firm ATH Resources reported strong growth in sales volumes in the first half and forecast annual trading in line with expectations.

ATH, Britain’s third biggest coal producer with five surface mines in Scotland, said sales in the six months to March 29 lifted by 6 percent to about 840,000 tonnes, generated entirely by its mining business.

“This business showed strong volume growth compared with the prior period, with an increase in sales in excess of 150,000 tonnes,” the AIM-listed group said in a trading statement.

ATH, which has coal supply contracts with four of the UK’s main electricity generators, said the average selling price of its coal continued to improve to more than 40 pounds per tonne, despite a reduction in the international market price of coal.

It said it anticipated a further rise in the second half.

“It is expected that trading for the full year will be in line with market expectations,” the statement said.
