Riversdale is an Australian mining company has discovered coal deposits in the area near the Zambezi River, Mozambique. Riversdale reports findings coal deposit is estimated to reach 1.5 billion tons. Found in coal deposits cover an area stretching 14 kilometers and the total coal deposits estimated at 1.7 billion tons.

“A second metallurgic coal project of this magnitude positions our company as the preferential supplier to the steel industry in markets in expansion like Brazil and India,” Riversdale CEO Michael O’Keeffe was quoted by local newspapers as saying.

In recent years resource-rich Mozambique has attracted huge foreign investment in exploration for gas, oil, and other commodities.

The investment has fuelled strong growth in the former Portugese colony of around 20 million people, which is still recovering from a devastating 16-year civil war between 1976 and 1992.
