China Coal Exports Down Reaching Lowest Number In September, 2.9 Percent YoY

Statistical reports, China coal exports down reaching the lowest number this year. The number of coal exports in September 2.02 million tons, compared to last year China’s coal exports could reach 2.08 million tons in September last year. Export monthly average fell more than 50% in the first eight months.
International Coal Mine Prices
Statistics show Globalcoal thermal coal prices rose 5.6% in September to USD $ 71.88 per ton. The price of coal in South Africa to be $ 64.43 per ton. Coking coal spot prices in international market has soared to $ 170 per tonne from USD 120 per ton in April.
However, China’s accumulative coal exports during January to September were down 53% over last year to 16.85 million tons. However, coal imports in the first eight months surged 160% to 73.83 million tons, which implies net imports of 59 million tons. On the other hand, coke exports remained sluggish. China exported only 360,000 tons of coke and semi-coke during the January to September fell by 97% YoY. Coke exports recorded only 40,000 tonnes in September.
Chinese Customs predicts coal demand will shrink as the weak steel market and the reduction in steel output in the whole world. Eurofer has estimated 33% decline in steel consumption this year compared with 2008. Coke importing countries the main, such as Brazil and India, tend to absorb overseas coking coal to produce coke as increased cocaine production facilities, which led to falling dependence on Chinese coke.
