Argentina Hopes To Be Largest Lithium Producer In The World

Lithium mining resources in Argentina gives hope to the Argentina government to become the largest lithium producer in the world. Increased production of lithium in Argentina was marked by the opening of lithium mine in northwestern Jujuy province in late 2010. Currently lithium production in Argentina has increased from 36.000 metric tons to 38.000 metric tons after the government opened Olaroz mines.
Mining companies are investing in lithium production project in Argentina
Orocobre Ltd has invested $ 104 million to begin construction of production equipment in the mines Olaroz lithium. This Australian company will build a lithium salt mines of the flat in the northwest of Jujuy, Argentina.
Brazilian mining company Vale SA to invest in potash project in the western province of Mendoza. Vale’s development will give Argentina the world’s biggest potash field when it is completed. Potash is a raw material used to make fertilizers and glass.
“Vale has several projects in Argentina, including salt fields, but lately is has focused on the Rio Colorado project because of its sheer size,” Mayoral said. “The deposit has reserves of more than 100 million tons and will become the world’s largest potash commercial enterprise.”
