Angola says it has awarded 19,000 mining licences to local companies ever since the country opened up the diamond mining sector.
State news agency, Angop reports that when the government opened the doors to bids, ENDIAMA (the National Diamond Company of Angola) received 28,000 requests in just a few days and approved 19,000.
